This SDC automated work cell needed to be able to hold bulk quantities of 3” x 3” glass panels and automatically process them to measure dark and light current-voltage (I-V) parameters. Knowing the electric I-V characteristics of a solar cell or panel is critical in determining its output performance and solar efficiency. This system was specifically designed for the solar industry but can be adapted for a variety of glass panel testing needs.
SDC designed and built a testing system that can hold bulk quantities of 3” x 3” glass panels and automatically process them to measure dark and light I-V parameters.
A Fanuc 6-axis robotic arm automatically unloads the glass panels from the holding cassette and loads them into the light testing fixture. The fixture uses precision locating pins and a Cognex machine vision system to ensure exact placement every time.
Once the test is complete, the robot removes the glass and reloads it into the cassette. The system records, saves, and displays the measurement data based on the customer’s specific requirements.
The entire cell is constructed of heavy, robust precision components, with industry standard OSHA safety protection. The system can process 1,900 glass panels in an 8-hour shift with 99% uptime.
